Local volunteering

“You too can make a positive change to the lives of people around you” – Pope Francis Ashwell residents can contribute to the community through volunteering. Many residents take part in the weekly sandwich run. Some also volunteer at Baytree Centre, a social inclusion charity for women and girls, where they help to run after-school youth activities such as cookery, maths, science and art clubs, as well as organising fundraising events. We also help organise visits to the elderly and others in need. Many residents volunteer at Idia’s Community Kitchen . You can read about how one of our students benefited from this volunteering in DHEF Newsletter.

International volunteering

We have organised several international volunteering projects in Romania, Uganda, Kenya, Poland, Estonia, Portugal and Mexico. We work in partnership with local NGOs who have good knowledge of local needs. Ashwell volunteers work with project leaders to fundraise, acquire a basic knowledge of the local language and build an effective team.
